International Meeting Cultural Geographies of Music, Sound and Silence
9 and 10 of may 2024 | Nogueira da Silva Museum, Braga
‘Cultural Geographies of Music, Sound and Silence’ brings together a group of artists and scientists whose fundamental motivation is the passion for the musical phenomenon in its relationship with the landscape experience. A work proposal that contains several challenges, among them, the questioning of an origin or locative essence for each musical culture, the exploration of the emotional paths that are organized in each geographical imagination, or, perhaps the greatest challenge is the attempt to overcome a tradition of imprisonment of the idea of landscape to the purely visual dimension: from landscape as optical experience to landscape as haptic experience. And if music, sound and silence make space, they produce journeys in time and meaning, because they too result from a deep relationship with the places that have become expression.
This is the starting point for a two-day debate organised by the Department of Geography of the University of Minho and the Laboratory of Landscapes, Heritage and Territory (Lab2PT), a debate open to the public to be held at the Nogueira da Silva Museum, in Braga.
