On November 14th, at 6.30 pm, there will be an open lecture entitled “Territorial Museums: Opportunities and Challenges. The Case of the Braga Museum”, given by Doctor João Duarte within the scope of the Cultural Heritage and Society course unit of the Master’s degree in Cultural Heritage.

Biographical note:

João Duarte (Almeirim, 1985), PhD with International mention in Art History and Heritage Studies from the Universities of Santiago de Compostela and Porto (double degree); Master’s degree in Portuguese Art History and Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Porto. Senior technician in the Department of Culture and Tourism in the Municipality of Braga in the area of cultural planning and museum policies. He was a museologist at the Cerveira Art Biennial Foundation, F.P.; Consultant in the area of Cultural Heritage Management and Museology; member of the organizing committee of the International Heritage Summer School; Visiting Professor at the Department of Heritage and Cultural Landscapes – SHS/Université Jean Monnet (France) and integrated researcher at the R&D centers IACOBUS-USC and CITCEM-FLUP. He was a visiting researcher at DIDA – Dipartimento di Architettura of the Università degli Studi di Firenze (Italy). As a Senior Museology Technician, he worked at the Pena National Palace and the Douro Museum, with his main activities including the programming and production of temporary and permanent exhibitions; inventory, research and management of collections; preventive conservation and storage of cultural assets; and the implementation of the MuD project – a network of museums in the Douro region.

This open lecture is organized by the History Department of ICS, in collaboration with Lab2PT/IN2PAST and the House of Knowledge of the University of Minho.
