Rooting Symposium: from Alvar Aalto to Álvaro Siza
March 11th and 12th, 2025 | Porto and Guimarães
The theme of this symposium is the formal and methodological proximity of Álvaro Siza to Alvar Aalto, as assumed by the Portuguese architect in several texts and interviews.
Based on the consideration of a common element in the work of both authors, the adaptation to the context of external influences, several authors were invited to reflect on the work of the Portuguese architect and its relationship with the methodology of the finnish master.
The first day, March 11th, will be in Porto, between 10am and 6pm, at the Marques da Silva Foundation.
In the morning, a session will be held that can be followed in person and online, with the participation of Juhani Pallasmaa, Opa Koponen, Miguel Borges de Araújo, Juan Domingo Santos and Carmen Moreno.
In the afternoon there will be an exclusively in-person session, with the participation of Alexandre Alves Costa, Jorge Figueira, Luís Urbano, Carlos Chaves de Almeida and Pedro Ramalho.
The following day, March 12, the event continues in Guimarães, at the Architecture Building of the Azurém Campus of the University of Minho, between 10 am and 6 pm; will have two exclusively in-person sessions (with free entry, subject to room capacity) where Sofia Miguens, Antonio Río Vázquez, Paulo Tormenta Pinto, Luís Miguel Correia, Teresa Ferreira, João Rapagão, João Cabeleira /Lab2PT, Ivo Oliveira/Lab2PT, Paulo Mendonça/Lab2PT, Natacha Moutinho/Lab2PT and Elisiário Miranda/Lab2PT will participate.
