DESIGN COMMIT 2024, the first International Conference on Design and Industry will take place at Forum Braga, from 20 to 22 May 2024, as part of the dynamics of the 7th Braga Economic Week.

The theme of the 2024 edition is Design for Different Futures, Beyond Economic Growth.

 

The DESIGN COMMIT 2024 conference is a meeting point between design and industry, striving for innovation and interdisciplinary knowledge, aiming to be an international event composed of a wide variety of sessions/assemblies, bringing together researchers, academics, designers, expanding technological companies , emerging companies, business associations and political decision-makers, with the aim of actively fostering and developing joint reflection, in a transdisciplinary scientific exchange, that enhances innovation through Design and Industry for an intelligent, sustainable and inclusive future. The conference will explore pertinent topics, including Design for different futures beyond the economic growth, addressing the convergence of smart, social, green, speculative and convertible design approaches.

 

Keynote speakers include:

– Stuart Walker, Professor of Design for Sustainability, known for his extensive research and publications that intertwine sustainability and design thinking.
– José Rui Marcelino, CEO & Design Manager at ALMADESIGN and Board Member of AED Cluster Portugal, offering cutting-edge visions of management and innovation in design.
– Guto Requena, Creative Director + CEO of Estudio Guto Requena, which challenges traditional limits through his work in architecture and design.
– Terence Love, internationally recognized as an expert in crime prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) and Design to eliminate crime.

We will also have the presence of several panels led by:
– Ricardo Rio, President of Braga City Council.
– João Vilaça, Pro-President for Research and Innovation (IPCA).
– Professor João Pedro Costa, President of CIAUD – Research Center in Architecture, Urbanism and Design.
– Fátima Pombo, Director of the Institute for Research in Design, Media and Culture (ID+).
– António Bob Santos, Member of the Board of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
– António Grilo, President of the National Innovation Agency – ANI.
– Cristina Góis Amorim, Manager of the Cultural and Creative Industries Sector at the Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal (AICEP).

 

 

On the first day of the conference, there will be a panel dedicated to the theme Transdisciplinary Paths: Research Leaders in Advancing Design and Industry for a Resilient Future, with representatives of science and research, where the intervention will be framed, at 11:30 am, by Doctor João Cabeleira, representing the direction of Lab2PT.

 

 

Organization: Lisbon School of Architecture (FA ULisboa), in partnership with the School of Design (ESD) of the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA), the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro and the OIKOS research group of the Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture (ID+), the School of Applied Arts (ESART) of the Polytechnic University of Castelo Branco (IPCB), and Rethink – Research Group on Design for the Territory (CIAUD); and School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho (EAAD) and the Design and Technology Group (DeTech) of the Laboratory of Landscape, Heritage and Territory (Lab2PT) of University of Minho.

 

 

The conference operates under the scope of the Research & Education in Design research group (REDES) from the Center for Research in Architecture Urbanism and Design (CIAUD).
