Besides being an opportunity for doctorate students to meet, each session enables a doctoral student to present the progress of their research and receive contributions from their peers.
SHARE.ICS #20 Filipe Oliveira | Human Dignity, Interculturality and Historical Consciousness: Conceptions and Educational Practices of History Teachers and Students
Abstract:
The present study, anchored in intercultural challenges, proposes to understand the historical-social consciousness materialized in the historical narratives of History teachers and students in Portuguese schools. The debate about respect for human dignity in the context of an intercultural dialogue has been reshaped in light of emerging concerns, which are discussed from the perspective of didactics under the need for a “new humanism” (Rüsen, 2021) enhanced by Historical Education. This study aims to understand how the discipline of History has contributed to the formation of historical consciousness. It is therefore essential to map and debate educational and social ideas and practices regarding the concepts of Human Dignity, New Humanism, Interculturality, Historical Consciousness and Teacher Training, in order to build clues on how to improve critical and independent thinking in curricular and pedagogical decision-making and promote educational practices in line with research and the shared conceptual framework.
