The SHARE meetings are bi-monthly seminars created, coordinated, and held by doctoral students enrolled in the third cycle of studies at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho / Lab2PT. Besides being an opportunity for doctorate students to meet, each session enables a doctoral student to present the progress of their research and receive contributions from their peers.

 

 

#39 SHARE.EAAD Invites Catarina Mateus | Other models of development: alternatives from marginalized territories

This session is part of the winter season and counts with the presentation by doctoral student from Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Catarina Mateus.

 

Abstract:
Other models of development: alternatives from marginalized territories has led to the peripheralization of non-urban territories and to the marginalization of other ways of life. To look into resistance and contestation practices can help us to imagine fairer and more inclusive futures for territories and for the way that we inhabit them.
In this research I analyse two cooperatives, one in Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal and the other one in the periphery of Quito, Equador, aiming to understand the alternative models of development they propose and their ways of producing territory.

 

Biography:
Studied Architecture in FAUL (pt) and Urban Design in Aalborg University (dk). Currently is a researcher in Dinâmia’Cet and PhD student in Urban Studies in Iscte-Iul (pt).
She was teacher of Architecture in UISEK (ec) and co-director of Habitante Film Festival (ec). Currently she is part of the collective Opción18 (pt-es) and Malha Cooperative (pt).
