#41 SHARE.EAAD | Margarida Lopes | From Singapore to Macau: A Guide to a New “-Topia”
The SHARE meetings are bi-monthly seminars created, coordinated, and held by doctoral students enrolled in the third cycle of studies at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho / Lab2PT. Besides being an opportunity for doctorate students to meet, each session enables a doctoral student to present the progress of their research and receive contributions from their peers.

This session is part of the winter season and counts with the presentation by doctoral student Margarida Lopes.
Abstract:
This presentation aims to outline the main contents of the master’s dissertation, completed in December 2023, and to articulate them with the elements that motivated its continuation within the scope of a doctoral research project. Based on this foundation, an analysis is developed of the methodological path traced between two distinct geographical contexts, Singapore and Macau, highlighting its relevance for the theoretical consolidation of the investigation.
Biography:
Margarida Ribeiro Lopes (Coimbra, 1999) is a PhD candidate at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho. She completed her master’s dissertation, titled “Architectural Simulacrum of Hypertopia: The Singapore Model”, in December 2023. Her main research interests focus on the relationship between contemporary architectural practices and th urban/architectural context of Asian metropolises. Throughout her academic journey, she has participated in several conferences such as Uncertain Landscapes, Design Commit, and the NBS Summit. Margarida is currently completing her professional internship for the Portuguese Order of Architects.
