The presentation session of the book Entre Marrocos e a Ásia. Caminhos e descaminhos da expansão marítima portuguesa, of Maria Augusta Lima Cruz, published by Edições Húmus, will be led by Professor and Lab2PT/IN2PAST Researcher António Clemente Lázaro, at 6pm on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the 100ª Página bookstore, in Braga (AV. Central, 118-120).

The presentation will also feature readings by António Durães.

 

Book Synopsis:

The twenty essays included in this work are part of a chronological arc that goes from the 16th century to the last quarter of the 18th century. Their backdrop is North Africa (Morocco) and the distant East Asia, two areas of the Portuguese colonial empire that, although very different, had in common the fact that they were considered “lands of conquest”.
Another of the thematic areas covered in this volume focuses on the chronicle configurations of the empire and its epigones in the Far East.
Finally, in a block of four articles entirely dedicated to Diogo do Couto, an overview of the life and literary production of this writer is provided.
