EDUCATION THROUGH ARCHITECTURE – Certified training course for teachers
The perception of space is one of the first fundamental experiences of human existence. We always have a relationship between our body and what surrounds us, whether it be the landscape or the built environment. We live in space and surrounded by architecture and, therefore, environmental education must be included in basic training.
Educational programs in architecture for children and young people in the Portuguese context are a bet to be made, as they show an evolutionary process of continuity, with the ambition to increasingly expand their educational offer.
We believe that it is possible to design architectural education as an element of integration into school curriculum programs.
We want to do this by sharing practices that generate change and, above all, encouraging the continuity and strengthening of educational service programs. To achieve this, we must converge in a multidisciplinary effort with an institutional and professional character.
The Education Through Architecture Network – EPA – brings together and presents national projects that work around education in its relationship with architecture and built space. Architecture offers a huge field of possibilities as an educational tool. By reflecting on the world around us and the relationship with the places we live, we can involve the whole of society in building better cities.
The III Education through Architecture Meeting aims to provide knowledge and free-use tools for the development of educational practices around architecture in the school context, encouraging reflections on architecture, landscape and territory as interdisciplinary educational tools.
The program features national educational projects as well as references from Italy. International projects and the respective debate will be presented in English.
Professor and Lab2PT/IN2PAST’s integrated Researcher Cidália Silva will present a communication about the Palácio da Imaginação project, entitled “Palácio da Imaginação: Fazer e aprender”, and Professor and Lab2PT/IN2PAST’s Integrated Researcher Maria Manuel Oliveira the communication “m. _de madeira, de mesa, de memória”.
