The UMinho 2025 Scientific Merit Award was presented this Monday to Maria Manuel Oliveira, a professor at the School of Architecture, Art and Design and a researcher at Lab2PT.
In a video published by the university, Maria Manuel Oliveira talks about architecture as a “project for the future”. “There is, in fact, a very large component of knowledge here in each project, the creation of knowledge and research on the subject we are working on,” she says. She also highlights the importance of creating public spaces for reconciliation.
“I confess that I’m very honored, of course, by this award and that it was absolutely unexpected. But it also seems to me that the university is opening up to new possibilities in other areas. I think it’s very good news for us, as we’re the most recent entrants to the University,” she adds.
Maria Manuel Oliveira is completing a project carried out in Zanzibar, Tanzania, on the hypothesis of rehabilitation and readaptation of highly degraded buildings occupied by several families with fragile socioeconomic conditions, a project she talks about in the interview given to Rádio Universitária do Minho, on the program 𝗨𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗛𝗢 𝗜 & 𝗗, in 20 of February.
