The Municipality of Figueira da Foz, through the Museum, Heritage and Centers Division, has been promoting, annually, in partnership with the Senior University of Figueira da Foz (USFF), within the scope of its Cultural Heritage discipline, the Cycle of Lectures “Archaeology Themes”.
The main objective of this talk “The contribution of old archeology collections to the advancement of scientific knowledge: the value of the archaeological material reserves”, given by Nuno Oliveira, collaborating researcher at Lab2PT, is to demonstrate the importance of archaeological reserves in the context of archaeological research and archaeological teaching in Portugal. We will also deal with some of the questions or problems that these material reserves pose for researchers and the public administration in general. The aim is to present, through various practical examples, the state, value and diversity of the collection in the custody of the various institutions that oversee and administer Portugal’s movable archaeological heritage.
