On February 4, 2025, the new publication by UMinho Editora was launched: “Evidência Futura – Universidade do Minho: projects and plans in the future within the scope of sustainable development”
Synopsis:
We must begin by admitting that the future is not evident and that seeing that future is, above all, an exercise in the present. The main reason why the future is not anticipated is probably related to the evolution of knowledge and technology and their role in social change. That said, it is not impossible and it is even advisable to think about this future in terms of the knowledge that exists today and that which is being produced now (cutting-edge knowledge, therefore). In this sense, universities and their research centers are certainly the best place for such a reflective exercise.
This is what this book seeks to do, asking the Organic Units of the University of Minho to reflect on how, given the knowledge they produce, they can contribute to our collective future, using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a reference. .
In a year in which the University of Minho celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of its establishment, this is an effort that could not be ignored. Beyond the tendencies towards pessimism and redemption, beyond subjective and collective anxieties, beyond positive or negative illusions, it is up to the University of Minho, as a place of research and thought, to cultivate (clair)vision about our common future.
