The ARQUS workshop “Living Laboratory Heritage & Society: Theoretical and methodological bases for the co-construction of knowledge about heritage with the local community” is taking place in Extremo, led by the University of Minho, in collaboration with the Universities of Leipzig and Granada.
For a week, the village of Extremo (Arcos de Valdevez, Portugal) became a living laboratory, thanks to the co-creation and collaborative construction of knowledge, focused on cultural heritage and the agrarian landscape.
Several professors and researchers from the ARQUS network – the Universities of Minho, Granada and Leipzig, and the Universities of A Coruña and Oviedo (Spain), worked together with the students, in online sessions and fieldwork.
We documented walking in the landscape in a performance activity with Cidália Silva, Célia Barbosa, João Alves and Rodrigo Pereira, as well as documenting the agrarian system with Rebeca Blanco-Rotea, Diego Machado and Eduardo Alves. We worked on the irrigation system and learned about irrigator communities with Elena Ochoa and Liliana Neves, learned about heritage data and its registration on platforms such as wikidata and ended with the communication of heritage projects with José Gabriel Andrade and Diana Mendes and with the sociological perspective focused on storytelling with Emília Araújo.
A great and enriching experience that ends with the documentary “A Festa do Emigrante” (A Feast of the Emigrant) (Sara Traba, 2021), together with the local community.
