Project Title
Art, Politics and Memory: Afro-Indigenous Aesthetics and the Search for Citizenship in the Community of Alto José do Pinho (1950-1990)
Abstract
The research proposed here is a study of the well-known North Zone of the city of Recife/PE. The trajectory of the neighborhoods was part of a history of Union struggle that dates back to the 1930s, with the installation of a textile factory in Casa Amarela neighborhood, which opened up job opportunities for a population leaving the Rural Areas of Pernambuco State. The objective is to find, in the occupation scene of the North Zone of the city of Recife/PE, exchanges of content between urban and rural areas that identify in popular movements the history of residents' struggle for the right to land (housing space) and human rights. To do this, we seek to understand how the residents of the neighborhood talk about this history based on artistic production, popular festivities and their practices and knowledge that has been developed over this period of time, within the scope of an experience affiliated with a colonial and post-colonial context. The research will be qualitative and ethnographic.
