Project Title

Not so much at sea nor so much on land, Architecture as an ecological condenser promoting reconciliation between the built environment and the aquatic environment

Abstract

Faced with the artificialization of the marine environment, the role of architecture is explored in the face of demands for an infrastructure for the protection and enjoyment of the city's waterfront and for the conservation of urban biodiversity. The premise is that a reconciliation strategy can be adopted in which the built environment serves as a viable analogue habitat for meeting the needs of the species. The hypothesis is that, compared to the gray infrastructures implemented in aquatic territories, the design solution that favors structures whose functional diversity includes ecological functions can make them more suitable for the promotion of conservation. To understand how architecture can mediate this interaction in the form of an ecological condenser that promotes equilibrium, the investigation will review the effects brought by urban infrastructure in this environment, select case studies, and make an analysis of the fundamental principles and procedures that act as project's primary generators that enable a multi-species architecture.
