Project Title
Montejunto – Estrela: descriptions and representations of the landscape based on the work of Orlando Ribeiro
Abstract
The object of study of the investigation is the Montejunto-Estrela territory defined by Orlando Ribeiro (1911-1997) as the alignment of reliefs that divides Continental Portugal into two distinct climatic areas: the Atlantic north, the Mediterranean south. Based on this condition, the research aims to define and characterize, through cartography, this transition territory. In this investigation, it is proposed that Orlando Ribeiro's written and photographic records - fundamental instruments for the description of this territory - are translated into interpretative maps, which raise questions, point out clues and serve as support for a new mapping and reading of the object of study. in contemporary times. The resulting cartography will seek to simultaneously transcribe Orlando Ribeiro's records and his confrontation with the perception in place, seeking to produce maps that expand disciplinary knowledge, that unfold different scales and times of analysis and that, in short, allow us to contribute to a new description of the Montejunto-Estrela territory.
