Project Title

Masonic symbolism in Pombaline architecture and urbanism

Abstract

This research aims to address a series of subjective aspects, such as the importance of the influence of political, religious and economic ideas in all the actions of the Marquis of Pombal, present in the Portuguese architecture of the 18th century, based on the territory of mainland Portugal, mainly in three cases: the urban transformation of Porto, the reconstruction of Lisbon after the earthquake and the creation of the city of Vila Real de Santo António.
