Project Title
Spaces, sociability and leisure in Baixo Minho (1850-1933)
Abstract
The contemporary era was marked by a series of political, economic and social transformations, which had an impact on the way human beings organized and occupied their time. Indicated as the period of the advent of leisure, it acquires new features, resulting from the division between work time and leisure time. The central objective of our investigation is to verify how these transformations took place in the Baixo Minho region, while the practices of the Old Regime persisted. Thus, we intend to study forms of leisure, leisure time and sociability, taking into account gender differences and differences between social groups, as well as contextual differences, namely between the countryside and the city, dictated by the imposition of bourgeois and liberal ideals.
