The “Palácio da Imaginação” Project arises from the application to the government program Bairros Saudáveis, for the Neighborhood of Emboladoura, located in the municipality of Guimarães.

The Palácio da Imaginação (PI) is a multifunctional and intergenerational public space resulting from the process of community co-creation in the Emboladoura neighborhood in the parish of Gondar, Guimarães. Local residents, neglected for decades by the responsible official institutions, will thus be able to enhance their common life and cultivate their sense of belonging. By questioning what a Palace is, not as an Object, but as an infinite Process, maintaining its extraordinary character, the aim is to make socio-spatial vulnerability a transformative movement so that each “being” and “everyone” can expand the imagination and thus overcome external and self-imposed oppressions. The methodology applies 4 action-verbs that achieve the objectives of the Palace of Imagination: interdialogue (the space between the “self” and the “other”); inhabit (my neighborhood, playing, studying, food, health, fabric); recreate (the study, the wall, the floor, the ceiling, the dialogue); activate (universal prevention, well-being, exchange, the environment, the sky), all carried out in the interaction of “I am” in “we”.
