2022 - Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of Prefab Architecture
Among the various indicators for evaluating the eco-efficiency and sustainability of buildings, the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is one of the most relevant, particularly in supporting the definition of architectural and construction systems that incorporate circularity principles. Off-site construction, prefabrication and modular construction have characteristics that suggest they benefit from the incorporation of these principles. It is in this context that the “LCA of Prefab Architecture” project fits, seeking to validate this statement through a comparative analysis of the application of LCA models to the most common prefabricated construction systems. It is also intended that the project will develop exploratory activities for the application of computer tools and computational models to measure LCA, encouraging and streamlining the integration of circularity principles in Architecture.

The work developed within the scope of the project/scholarship contributed to the master’s thesis: HERE and also for the definition of the work plan for a doctoral thesis submitted to the FCT PhD Scholarship call, in 2023. Having been approved, with ref. 2023.00923.BD, it started on November 1, 2023.
