2024 - The Romanesque-style rural church of Portugal: An initial stride towards the complete digitalization by Heritage-BIM. The case study of S. João de Calvos (Guimarães, XIII Cent. AD)
Portuguese rural Romanesque churches represent a significant part of the country’s historical-artistic heritage. Its state of conservation is closely linked to the construction technique and the quality/resistance of the stone material used. Nowadays, the safeguarding and enjoyment of these buildings is possible through the use of HBIM (Heritage – Building Information Modelling) tools.
This project presents a pilot case study that focuses on HBIM scanning in the church of São João de Calvos, Lordelo, Guimarães, dating from the 13th century, one of the rare examples of the late Romanesque style existing in the municipality of Guimarães and representative of a medieval parish, which has disappeared. before the end of the Middle Ages. It aims to produce a detailed digital 3D model (interior and exterior), available online and capable of integrating geometric and non-geometric data sets.
