2024 - BracaViae - Road Landscapes: The Roman Geira in Serra do Gerês
Mountain areas constitute unique spaces, endowed with great natural wealth and biodiversity, displaying a cultural legacy that over time has shaped unique landscapes. This project aims to study the Portuguese section of the Via Nova or Via XVIII of the Antonino Itinerary, as it travels through the Municipality of Terras de Bouro, particularly in its connection with the landscape and settlement. Considering the informative potential of the region to be analyzed, the project intends to carry out a set of works of a diverse nature, namely prospecting work, along the road and in its surroundings; drone surveys; surveys and excavations, in locations identified or to be identified; studies of the construction processes of the road, milestones and associated settlement spaces; epigraphic studies of milestones, with photogrammetry; and paleoenvironmental studies, in the archaeobotanical, pollen and pedoanthracological dimensions.
