2024 - Book of abstracts "From land to Earth. Terraces, bread and heritage. 3rd Meeting of research, education and socialisation of the heritage of Arcos de Valdevez"
The Book of Abstracts of the event From land to Earth. Terraces, bread and heritage. 3rd Meeting of research, education and socialization of the Heritage of Arcos de Valdevez, which took place on the 10th and 11th of November 2024 at the Junta of the Parish of Portela-Extremo in Extremo (Arcos de Valdevez) and at ICS, Campus de Gualtar, Braga, has been published online.
As part of the investigations that have been carried out in the Extremo area (Arcos de Valdevez) over the last seven years by Lab2PT and the UMinho Archeology Unit, it was possible to establish strong cooperation networks with the local community that resulted in a series of activities of a scientific, heritage and educational nature coordinated between scientists and local agents. In 2023, the IN2PAST exploratory project Da terra à Terra was financed. Connections for Sustainable Territories (Land-CST) (EXPL/In2Past/2023/09) whose objectives include the development of methodological tools for the study of landscape, involving the local community, with the intention of applying the knowledge generated in heritage sustainability of this territory affected by emigration, depopulation and the aging of the population.
The Land-CST project had as its starting point the characterization of a fortified defensive system from the Modern Age, to analyze its impact on an agrarian system that was probably introduced after the Restoration War. With the aim of analyzing the bread cycle and the material and immaterial heritage associated with it, researchers and the local community transformed this place into a living laboratory where different research, training and sustainable development initiatives intersect.
Continuing the dynamics developed in 2022 and 2023, Lab2PT, with the collaboration of IN2PAST, will hold a third meeting in 2024 focused on education and socialization of heritage. Held within the scope of the Land-CST project, this meeting will focus mainly on different heritage aspects associated with the bread cycle.
This meeting was financed by the Laboratory of Landscapes, Heritage and Territory (Lab2PT), supported by national funds through FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia I.P., within the scope of the projects UIDB/04509/2020 and UIDP/04509/2020; and by IN2PAST – Associated Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory is funded by FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, I. P. with reference LA/P/0132/2020 (DOI 10.54499/LA/P/ 0132/2020).
It also had the support of the Union of Parishes Portela-Extremo and the Municipal Council of Arcos de Valdevez.
