2nd International Conference on the History of Health: Epidemiology and Health Infrastructure in European History (19th-21st Century)

The 2nd International Conference on the History of Health, focusing on “Epidemiology and Health Infrastructure in European History (19th-21st Century)”, will be held in Lisbon from December 9-11, 2024, in a hybrid format.
Building on the inaugural conference organized by Lab2PT/In2Past in Braga in 2022, this edition is hosted by CIUHCT in collaboration with COST Action EuroHealthHist, Lab2PT/In2Past, and the Pharmacy Museum in Lisbon.
Aligned with the objectives of COST Action EuroHealthHist, led by Barry Doyle, the conference supports the goals of Working Group 1, centered on health provision.
Scholars and researchers will engage in discussions on the development and transformation of health infrastructures, epidemiological practices, and the broader context of health provision across Europe from the 19th to the 21st century.
This event aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and promote the exchange of expertise on national, international, and transnational health experiences, focusing on the following topics:
- The development of public health infrastructures
- Responses to epidemic outbreaks and health crises
- The role of medical and scientific institutions in shaping health policies
- The impact of social, political, and economic factors on public health system
By examining intersections between medical history, public health policies, and the social dimensions of health, the conference seeks to highlight the challenges and advancements in health provision that have shaped modern Europe and its connections with other regions, offering a comprehensive perspective on the history of global health from the 19th to the 21st century.
