The School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho, in collaboration with the Landscape Laboratory, the Guimarães 26 – European Green Capital Mission Unit, and with the support of Lab2PT/IN2PAST, is organizing the 2nd Symposium on Product and Service Design in Portugal, as part of the World Design Day celebrations, which will take place on April 29, 2026, at the Guimarães Design Institute and the Landscape Laboratory, Guimarães.

At a time when Guimarães assumes the title of European Green Capital 2026, this year’s theme could not be more timely: Designing the Future of Cities. What do we want the cities of the future to be like? What role does design play in building more sustainable, inclusive and people-centered urban spaces? What solutions are already being developed?

The Symposium will begin at the Landscape Laboratory with a climate day in Guimarães – One City, One Planet | Immersive, interactive, and educational experience focused on good environmental practices in the region, addressing themes such as Nature and Biodiversity, Climate Change, Water, Waste Management, Air Quality, and Noise.

In the afternoon, at the Guimarães Design Institute, five panels will bring together professionals and academics to reflect on the construction of urban spaces centered on people and the planet.

The Symposium aims to promote the sharing of scientific and professional knowledge, creating bridges between academia and industry, and also disseminating innovative national projects that stimulate user-centered solutions for urban contexts.
