7th International Meeting "The Walking Body" (TWB7)
23 to 28 of March 2026 | Garagem Avenida Gallery, Neighbourhood C, Guimarães
The Walking Body (TWB7) is an international gathering of walking artists. The 7th edition of The Walking Body (TWB) returns to Guimarães in 2026, bringing together national and international artists around the theme of Freedom.
TWB is an international gathering focused on walking as an artistic practice, exploring imagination, creation and critical reflection through the body in motion in urban space. Over the course of a week, artists and participants will develop walkshops — walking workshops — open to all interested parties.
During the week, the public will be able to participate in:
● Collaborative walkshops
● Hybrid workshops/walks with digital technology
● Long walks through the territory
● Curation of public space
● Running clubs
● Conversations with artists (Convívio)
● Portfolio Review
● Workshop/walk for families
● Workshop/walk for seniors
The results will be shared throughout the week in an ‘in progress’ exhibition at the Galeria da Garagem Avenida (EAAD – Av. Dom Afonso Henriques 250).
The walkshops will take place between 23 and 28 March, focusing on Bairro C and the Galeria da Garagem Avenida as the main meeting point.
On 26 March, at 6.30 pm, there will be a dusk talk on ‘Freedom in the Arts’ at Convívio (Largo da Misericórdia, 7-8, Guimarães).
Guest Artists:
TWB 2026 will feature Anna Lehtelä (FIN), Geert Vermeire (BE), Miguel B. Duarte (PT), Natacha Antão (PT), AVE – Associação Vimaranense para a Ecologia (PT) and ReRouting [(Clementine Butler-Gallie (GB) and Viviane Tabach (BR)].
Organisation and Partnerships:
The Walking Body takes place in Guimarães, Portugal, and is organised by Lab2PT, in collaboration with Made of Walking / The Milena Principle (B).
It is part of the European project WALC – Walking Arts & Local Communities, supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, in partnership with universities and cultural institutions in Belgium, France, Spain and Greece.
It also has the institutional and financial support of Bairro C, by the Municipality of Guimarães, via IMPACTA, and the creative support of AVE – Associação Vimaranense para a Ecologia.
In addition, as part of WALC, the online programme walk · listen · create (WLC): Map Scrambles (online, in English) will be presented, in which walking artists share how each of them documents the art of walking, specifically by freely adapting, modifying or creating their own maps.
