This academic conference aims to provide a space for reflection and discussion on the processes of political, social, and territorial transformation associated with the disintegration of Roman imperial power in the West, taking Gallaecia between the fourth and seventh centuries AD as its geographical and chronological framework.

Its principal objective is to deepen the analysis of the dynamics of continuity, adaptation, and reconfiguration of power structures during the early Middle Ages, while also considering the plurality of theoretical and methodological perspectives that Archaeology, in dialogue with other disciplines, offers for addressing these historical processes. Particular attention will therefore be devoted to the peasant communities that began to emerge during this period, with the aim of understanding the new forms of social, economic, and territorial organisation that developed in the context of the early medieval period.
