The SHARE meetings are bi-monthly seminars created, coordinated, and held by doctoral students enrolled in the third cycle of studies at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho / Lab2PT. Besides being an opportunity for doctorate students to meet, each session enables a doctoral student to present the progress of their research and receive contributions from their peers.

 

 

#33 SHARE.EAAD Invites João Rosmaninho | Lisbon in the cinema: between 2012 and 2017, between 1918 and 2012, and between 1939 and 1945

A PhD research path can be clean, direct and assertive, but also tortuous and erratic. It can be short (unlikely), long (or too long) or simply seen as a scientific extension of our desires.
The proposal for this “SHARE.Invites” session is based on an intersection of narratives, times and spaces in search of meaning between cinematographic fiction and individual experience, mixing processes and results from the doctoral thesis “Montage and City: Lisbon at the Movies”. Thus, based on this mode and format of audiovisual representation of a place and its history, Lisbon will be taken as a (broad) case study and also as an opportunity for its interpretation and permanent re-assembly.

 

Biography:

João Rosmaninho (b. 1979) has a degree in Architecture (2002), a master’s degree in Communication Sciences (2009) and a PhD in Architecture, in the area of Architectural Culture (2017). He has been a lecturer at UMinho’s EAAD (since 2002) and an integrated member of Lab2PT (since 2018).
His main area of research lies between architecture and fiction, and he has designed architectures and published fictions.
