4th Seminar on Advanced Studies in Contemporary History
Radicalisation and extremism on the Brazilian right: a history from the grassroots
The 4th Seminar on Advanced Studies in Contemporary History aims to promote debate among senior and junior researchers, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, around political, social, and cultural themes in the contemporary period.
Presentation:
Odilon Caldeira Neto (UFJF) – Radicalisation and extremism on the Brazilian right: a history from the grassroots
Synopsis: With the rise of the new right in Brazil, a phenomenon of radicalisation has emerged in two distinct ways. On the one hand, the rise of Bolsonarism has fuelled tensions within the dominant political right. At the same time, fringe groups have begun to vie for representation and to make inroads into other spheres, from digital media to institutional circles. The aim is to reflect on this landscape of cooperation and conflict within the contemporary political framework.
The Advanced Studies Seminars in Contemporary History are established as spaces for thematic sharing and discussion of methodological issues.
