Workshop on Collection and Preparation of Clay for Ceramics

April 11^th and 12^th, in Estremoz

Want to get your hands dirty? Project 2LEGACY’s workshop dedicated to collecting and preparing clay for ceramics is scheduled for April 11^th and 12^th, in Estremoz, happening in the field and at the Prof. Joaquim Vermelho Municipal Museum.

Participants will be invited to collect clay in the field and prepare it for drying. Afterwards, since the collected material needs time to dry properly, the preparation for ceramics will be done using previously collected and dried clay. A guided tour of the Estremoz Municipal Museum Prof. Joaquim Vermelho is also in the programme.

The aim of the Workshop on Collection and Preparation of Clay for Ceramics is to prepare endogenous clay for a pottery residency to be held in the second week of July and which participants are also invited to attend.

Registration is necessary, until April 9^th, since places are limited. Lunch is not included but accommodation for students of the Master’s Degree in Glass and Ceramic Art and Science (NOVA FCT and FBAUL) is. If you are interested, please fill in this form.

2LEGACY is an IN2PAST-funded exploratory project which aims to explore the role of endogenous clay in traditional ceramics production, both in the past and in contemporary practices. Carried out with the collaboration of the Estremoz Municipality and pottery association ADOE (Associação Dinamizadora da Olaria de Estremoz), it takes the cities of Estremoz and Barcelos as ‘living laboratories’ for the regeneration of heritage and crafts.

This workshop is part of 2LEGACY’s goals of knowledge transfer and societal engagement regarding the dialogue on the usage of endogenous clay in modern craftwork.
