This article presents the experiences carried out in the mountains of northern Spain and Portugal as part of the European project, Cultur-Monts, which aims to encourage the revitalisation of these rural areas through formal and informal education.
Among the initiatives presented are the ‘Schools of the Territory’, designed as an instrument to promote interaction between communities, the territory and heritage, working on cultural heritage and archaeology in particular.
The different educational proposals are adapted to the characteristics and problems of the local context in which they are developed.
The first results show that they not only promote the valorisation of cultural heritage, but also strengthen the sense of belonging of local inhabitants, with a special focus on children and young people.
On the Revue internationale d’éducation de Sèvres, the article Valoriser les ressources patrimoniales dans les apprentissages locaux en Espagne et au Portugal. L’exemple du projet Cultur-Monts (Valorising heritage resources in local education in Spain and Portugal) shows some of the promising results of the work carried out by Lab2PT in the CulturMonts consortium.
