The relationship between societies and the space they occupy, the diversity of construction techniques, formal architectural resources, as well as specific constructive or urban approaches, presuppose archaeological elements that allow an immediate connection between the materiality of past societies and their conception of domestic space. , social and representation of power.
Architectural Archeology has become a tool with a strong ability to identify built spaces in historical terms. Its application in research projects, building restoration, or urban evolutionary studies allows us to identify, understand and interpret human spatial actions from a global perspective, and go much further than reading chronological and stratigraphic that is part of the central core of the discipline: understanding built contexts.
This course aims to be an introduction to epistemological and practical approaches to Architectural Archeology. A presentation will be made on the various documentation and recording methodologies, along with strategies for gaining a holistic understanding of the built space. The entire course will develop from a set of practices in which the immediate historical environment of the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community of Madrid plays a central role.
