The team of the IN2PAST 2024/2025 exploratory project “The rural Romanesque church of Portugal: A first step towards complete digitization by Heritage-BIM. The case of São João de Calvos (Guimarães, 13th century AD)”, coordinated by Fabio Sitzia (IR, HERCULES Laboratory – University of Évora/ IN2PAST) and with Jorge Ribeiro as CoIR (Lab2PT/ IN2PAST), has just published the results of the research developed within this project.

 

The article, titled “From the quarry to the monument: integrated study of São João de Calvos Church (Guimarães, Portugal)” was published in the journal Arqueología de la Arquitectura.

 

Led by Fabio Sitzia, the study is co-authored by Lab2PT/IN2PAST researchers Filipe Brandão, Paulo Bernardes, Rebeca Blanco Rotea, and Jorge Ribeiro. The article presents an integrated approach to the study of the Romanesque church of São João de Calvos, combining archaeological, architectural, and geological analysis within a Heritage Building Information Modelling (HBIM) framework, demonstrating the potential of digital technologies for the protection, conservation, and enhancement of built heritage.
