ross-cutting Thematic Meeting 5 “The territory. Conservation of cultural and natural heritage and limitation of tourist use of the territory”

The fifth cross-cutting thematic meeting of 2025–2026 addresses the territory as a tourism resource, highlighting natural, landscape, and cultural heritage—both tangible and intangible—as a driver of economic and social development.
It raises the question of whether tourism management should prioritize superficial and short-lived uses or promote a rigorous, authentic offer rooted in Galician cultural reality. It advocates preserving territorial identity by valuing the landscape as an expression of memory and avoiding tourism monoculture.
It notes that mass tourism is already affecting the authenticity of emblematic sites, such as the Routes of Santiago. In light of the increase in visitors, it emphasizes the need for public instruments to regulate tourist flows, ensuring the conservation of heritage for future generations.
