This week, on UMinho I&D, historian Isabel Fernandes, a researcher at Lab2PT/IN2PAST, discusses four decades of dedication to ceramic heritage. The pretext is the launch of her most recent work, “Vila Verde, Land of Clay and of Men and Women Who Work It,” a book that recovers memories dating back to Roman times.
An essential journey for anyone who wants to understand the roots of our territory and the dignity of an art that, as the researcher says, “fed many people.”
In an interview with the UMinho I&D program, the historian emphasizes that there are professions that hold the genetic code of a region. In Minho, pottery was, for centuries, much more than a craft: it was such a powerful economic force that, in the 17th century, ceramists were among the most prestigious classes in society.
The interview with UMinho I&D was conducted this Thursday, January 22nd, on the University of Minho Radio.
