On November 9, 16 and 23, 2026, the Galician Culture Council, through its Heritage and Cultural Assets Section, is organizing in Santiago de Compostela the forum “Intervening in the built heritage, incorporating the past into the future“, coordinated by the ICS/Lab2PT/IN2PAST researcher, Rebeca Blanco-Rotea, together with Carlos A. Amoedo Souto, Rosa Benavides García and Teresa Nieto Freire.

The forum is dedicated to reflection and debate on the current challenges of intervention in built heritage. Over the course of three days, different issues related to conservation, restoration and rehabilitation criteria and methodologies will be addressed, the need to promote transdisciplinary approaches that integrate different areas of knowledge and the legal and administrative frameworks that condition the intervention and decision-making processes.
The meeting aims to bring together researchers, architects, archaeologists, specialists in conservation and restoration, professionals and representatives of public administrations, promoting dialogue between scientific research, professional practice and the management of cultural heritage. More than discussing how to intervene in the built heritage, it is intended to reflect on what to preserve, why, for whom and with what responsibilities, understanding heritage intervention as a process of knowledge production, valorization of cultural assets and construction of a future that respects and integrates the values of the past.
