It was on May 28, 1926, in Braga, that the military coup that overthrew the First Portuguese Republic erupted. The Portuguese version of the fascist regimes of the interwar period was born 100 years ago and lasted for the next 48 years.
In this first initiative of CAUSA PÚBLICA in Braga, with the participation of historians Manuel Loff (IHC – NOVA FCSH/IN2PAST, FLUP) and Fátima Moura Ferreira (Lab2PT/IN2PAST – ICS/UMinho), we will discuss the times of the dictatorship, the attempts to whitewash it, and the dangers that democracy faces today.
The Almedina de Braga Centro (located at Rua 25 de Abril, 435) will host this debate by Causa Pública. This session, at 6 pm on the 22nd, will be moderated by sociologist Manuel Carlos Silva (ICS/UMinho).
Admission is free.
