After a year of reflection in the context of the elaboration of four workshops (1. ROTATIONS; 2. TRANSFORMATIONS; 3. DISPLACEMENTS; 4. com/land4scapes) on landscape as an object of research and as a space in which the activities and thoughts of societies are developed over the course of human time, in which different members of the Lab2PT, Laboratory for Landscapes, Heritage and Territory and the IN2PAST, Associated Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory, as well as other external guest researchers have participated, we launched the call for the international congress “Uncertain Landscapes. Beyond transdisciplinary approaches”.
It will take place in Guimarães, Portugal, on 22, 23 and 24 November 2023.
This conference aims to approach landscape as a conceptual tool to rethink our way of being in the world, break disciplinary boundaries in the search for answers to the problems of the present, in the relationship between human beings and the spaces they inhabit, in addition to also being a tool for the construction of a diverse future, one based on knowledge of the past, and fluid between the permeability of the territory and respect for the environment.
To this end, we invite abstract and paper proposals from scholars, professionals, theorists, etc. working in research areas such as, architecture, landscape architecture, archaeology, visual arts, design, media and communication studies, history, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, history of art, photography, geography, geology, different branches of the natural sciences and any other related research fields.
The conference focuses on six themes:
- VULNERABILITIES, WEAKNESSES AND CONFLICTS
- TRANSDISCIPLINARITY OR (IN)DISCIPLINARITY
- MATERIALS, TOOLS AND TRANSFORMATIONS
- NARRATIVES FOR NEW HISTORY & STORIES. REVEALING INVISIBILITIES
- A COMMON CONSTRUCTION. POLICIES AND ACTIONS.
- WALKING AND MIGRATING – MOVEMENT AS LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION.
