The conference aims to be a space for debate and the development of proposals, based on the experiences of the ‘Communities and Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH)’ meetings held throughout 2025.
These meetings, held in collaboration with the communities that are the bearers of ICH and in their own territories, highlighted the vulnerability of intangible heritage, as well as the difficulties in its transmission and the urgent need for protection measures and active, collective and constantly evolving safeguarding.
Based on a management model defined in the Galician Cultural Heritage Act, which is widely recognised, and its level of application and results, the conference aims to highlight the shortcomings of the current approach to cultural heritage, which focuses almost exclusively on the declaration of assets of cultural interest. In contrast to this vision, the potential of networking in the territory will be explored, where communities are the central axis of heritage action. In this approach, intangible cultural heritage is at the service of the communities themselves, contributing to their well-being, their collective identity and the continuity of their living cultural practices.
Lab2PT/IN2PAST researcher Rebeca Blanco Rotea participated in the presentation of the CCG report ‘The situation of cultural heritage preservation,’ together with Teresa Nieto Freire, Coordinator of the Heritage and Cultural Assets Section of the Galician Culture Council, the section from which the report was prepared.
