The historical roads, among them the Camiños de Santiago, constitute a vertebral element of the territory, at the same time as a patrimonial element that watches over the mobility of people, merchandise or ideas, as well as the infrastructures associated with them. Its understanding is fundamental to recover the spatial history of past societies.
This year, the conference organised jointly by the Consello da Cultura Galega (Galicia) and the Museo de Melide (Melide, Lugo, Galiza), focuses on the lodgings and hostels associated with the historical and pilgrimage routes in Galicia.
This meeting will open with a presentation on the stories of hospitality as a framework for this important phenomenon, followed by a tour of the structures of this type documented in the region of Monterrei. The meeting ends with three case studies reviewed from the point of view of history, archaeology and art history respectively, from A Fonsagrada to Santiago de Compostela, passing through Melide: A transversal look at the infrastructures of access and care of the walkers.
Rebeca Blanco-Rotea will be giving the talk “The Montouto Old Hospital (A Fonsagrada). An archaeological case study”.
This conference is coordinated by Lab2PT researcher Rebeca Blanco-Rotea, and Cristina Vázquez Neira ( Museum of Terra de Melide).
