As part of the educational activities developed within the Fortalezas da Fronteira project, which will undertake its second fieldwork campaign between 6 and 17 July 2026, Rebeca Blanco-Rotea, a researcher at Lab2PT/IN2PAST, participated in Turonia 2026 together with schools from the municipality of Tomiño.
The activity aimed to share the results of the archaeological intervention carried out in 2025 at the defensive complex of As Torres, a fortified site that reuses an ancient Roman mining exploitation.
The initiative helped bring the local school community closer to the historical and archaeological knowledge of the territory.
Turonia, a Journey to the Treasures of Tomiño, is a day of shared learning and interaction among students from the different schools of Tomiño. It was created in 2001 by the Physical Education teachers of CEP Pedro Caselles Beltrán and has since brought together students from five schools within the municipality.
Its main objective is to visit and explore emblematic places in Tomiño that stand out for their natural, cultural, and ethnographic value.
Participants: Rebeca Blanco-Rotea (Lab2PT/IN2PAST), Xurxo Salgado, Grupo Novos Medios (University of Santiago de Compostela), Montes de Taborda Community (Tomiño, Spain)
