Conference by Rebeca Blanco-Rotea "Studying an archaeological building. The case of Santa Eulalia de Bóveda (Lugo, Spain): from the late Roman period to the Modern Age"
November 21th | 3pm-4pm | Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

The lecture to be given in the framework of the Medieval Studies program of the Instituto de História of the UFRJ aims to show the interdisciplinary research developed in the building of Santa Eulalia de Bóveda (Lugo, Spain), between 2007 and 2022, which culminated in the absolute dating of all its constructive phases through the combination of several dating techniques.
The aim of this talk is to show how we can study a building archaeologically, crossing disciplinary approaches and different sources of information.
Santa Eulalia de Bóveda is a building very close to the city of Lucus Augusti, about which an important controversy has arisen regarding its dating and functionality on which not many researchers agree. This research shows the problems, results and new lines of work in a key building in the Iberian Peninsula in the transition period between the late Roman period and the Middle Ages.
