Between 8 and 16 September, Lab2PT, the Archaeology Unit of the University of Minho and the University of Santiago de Compostela carried out an archaeological intervention at the site of As Torres (Tomiño, Spain), where a fortification from the War of Restoration period (1640-1668) was identified in 2023.
The project, funded by the Regional Deparment of Culture, Language and Youth of the Regional Government of Galicia, was led by Lab2PT/IN2PAST researcher Rebeca Blanco-Rotea.
The results have revealed a very complex site that reuses a Roman mining exploitation to build an early medieval tower and a modern fortification, related to the episodes of the War of Restoration that took place in this area in 1666.
The talk, held in collaboration with the communications manager of the Work Camp, Xurxo Salgado, and the neighbours of the Community of Montes de Taborda, aims to present the results of the intervention.
Participants: Rebeca Blanco-Rotea (Lab2PT/IN2PAST), Xurxo Salgado, Grupo Novos Medios (University of Santiago de Compostela), Montes de Taborda Community (Tomiño, Spain)
Promoting institutions: Ministry of Culture, Language and Youth of the Xunta de Galicia, USC, Lab2PT/IN2PAST, UAUM
