Gonçalo Cruz, a collaborating researcher at Lab2PT, participated in a conference honoring José Leite de Vasconcelos, an initiative included in the cycle promoted by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto to honor six eminent figures who passed through the same Faculty.
The presentation given by archaeologist Gonçalo Cruz aimed to highlight the connection between the founder of the National Museum of Archaeology and the archaeologist Francisco Martins Sarmento who, although older than Leite de Vasconcelos, maintained a scientific collaboration with him for several years. From this point, archaeological studies in the North of the country at the end of the 19th century were explored, highlighting the significant role of Leite de Vasconcelos in promoting these studies, as well as the role of Martins Sarmento in disseminating the collections that, originating from the North, later became part of the National Museum.
The session included the participation of researchers from different areas, such as Archaeology, Medicine, Museology, Numismatics, and Linguistics, and from different institutions and universities.
