Podcast on the fortresses of the Galician-Portuguese border erected during the War of the Restoration (1640-1668) in the Warchaeology programme, where the researcher Rebeca Blanco Rotea, who has been investigating this border for years from an interdisciplinary approach that unites archaeology, architecture and landscape analysis, talks with Pablo Carrasco and Gorka Martín about the war and its impact on the Galician-Portuguese border, with special attention to the fortifications of Extremo, in Portugal.
Through these material remains, the historical, architectural and social dimensions of the conflict are explored. The researcher highlights how these defensive remains not only speak of the wartime past, but today generate a dialogue between archaeologists and local communities, strengthening the links between historical memory and territorial identity.
Her research shows how landscape archaeology allows us to understand not only the dynamics of the conflict, but also how these structures have been assimilated by the population, contributing to a shared memory that still endures.
