The UMinho Scientific Research Initiation Award aims to provide an opportunity for first-cycle students (including the first three years of integrated study cycles leading to a master’s degree) to experience real-world scientific research and to join research teams working to create new and relevant knowledge. To achieve this goal, the aim is for students applying for the Award to have the opportunity to engage in supervised research activities that foster their interest in science.
The Award also aims to help guide students toward conscious and successful engagement in subsequent study cycles, where research plays a central role. This annual initiative, promoted by the Rector’s Office in collaboration with research centers, aims to enable UMinho’s first-cycle students to engage in real-world research contexts, work on teams that address new and relevant knowledge, receive supervision from renowned scientists, and further develop their interest in science.
The award includes a certificate and a cash prize of 500 euros.
The project selected for public presentation and entry into the Lab2PT Award competition is that of student João Ricardo Cerqueira de Oliveira, who was in the third year of the Integrated Master’s in Architecture at the time of the competition. The project is titled “Augmented Automation – Towards sustainable and reversible architectural systems” and was led by Dr. Filipe J. S. Brandão (EAAD/Lab2PT).
The public presentation of the projects will take place on October 24th, in the afternoon, beginning at 2 pm.
Each presentation will have a maximum duration of 7 minutes, followed by a 5-minute discussion.
