On June 12, Lab2PT/IN2PAST doctoral student Francisco José Silva Andrade defended his thesis, entitled “Territorial dynamics and powers in the region of Braga between Late Antiquity and the Modern Age”, co-supervised by integrated researchers Maria Manuela Martins, Rebeca Blanco Rotea and Maria do Carmo Ribeiro, having obtained the highest grade.
His project aimed to establish the general lines of settlement in the Braga region between Late Antiquity and the Modern Age, focusing mainly on the role that ecclesiastical institutions played in the organization of the territory. The research was conducted from an interdisciplinary perspective, combining the methods and assumptions of Landscape Archaeology, Architectural Archaeology and documentary analysis. A study was carried out of the main settlement units that fall within the period under analysis, highlighting Christian places of worship, with a focus on the dynamics and power relations associated with the region’s land ownership.
Congratulations to Doctor Francisco Andrade!
