On December 5th, Lab2PT/IN2PAST doctoral student Teresa Filipa de Assis Caldeira Cruz Corais will defend her thesis, entitled “The City ‘Walking’ Towards 2050: Braga as a Laboratory for a Resilient and Sustainable Urban System”, supervised by Professors Marta Labastida Juan, Cecília do Carmo Ferreira da Silva, and Miguel Sopa de Melo Bandeira.
As a stimulus to achieving the objectives for Climate Action 2050, regarding the promotion of sustainable urban mobility (SUM), the thesis focuses on the assumptions of the New Bauhaus and the role of the architect in this co-creation process which, in an interdisciplinary way, promotes the physical and cultural changes necessary for a paradigm shift. Thus, the thesis aims to define and evaluate an action-research methodology that seeks to Accelerate Change in Behaviors, Attitudes, and Mentality of society (MACBAM). The thesis is based on 3 pillars: Transition Management, the design of public space, and the change in behavior, attitudes, and mindsets of society.
