On 1 June (Thursday), at 6 p.m., we have the privilege of presenting Psiax#6 dedicated to the theme “Writing about, for and with Drawing”, where we try to point out some of the possible fields of action where the relationship between drawing and writing develops and reinvents itself.
The presentation of PSIAX#6 has as special guest the painter and drawer Gonçalo Pena, followed by a visit to the exhibition “Desenraizado” by the artist Najla Leroy. The release will take place at the Garagem Avenida Gallery (level 0).
Gonçalo Pena (1967) lives and works between Lisbon and Guimarães, mostly in painting and drawing. Having been recognized for his dense and figurative painting, especially until 2015, he has ben since restructuring all his work as meta-painting, in other words, as a task that tries to answer conceptually to the crossroads of the problem of painting today. This task is articulated with drawing and with other possible supports. His drawings have been published since 2014 by Mousse Publishing with successive editions by João Maria Gusmão. In 2021, the third volume “Barber Shop” was published on the occasion an exhibition in Serralves Museum (Porto) of the same name. Has a PhD (Universidade Nova de Lisboa).
Najla Leroy is an artist, born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, currently living in Portugal. She is a PhD student in Plastic Arts, Master in Graphic Design and Editorial Projects and Specialist in Illustration by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. She investigates the creative processes in the expanded field of Printing Techniques and the Artist Book. Her work is autobiographical, starting from the curious observation of the cyclical movements of nature and its relations with her own artistic work which is expressed through drawings, prints and photographs.
Guided tour – The exhibition “Desenraizando”, by Najla Leroy shares the artist’s artistic practice, a continuous process of removing by the root, a search inwards bringing outwards. An exhibition that reveals the artist’s many layers in her understanding of nature as metaphor.
