As part of its research seminars, in a joint organization with Lab2PT/IN2PAST, the D. Diogo de Sousa Archaeological Museum (MADDS) welcomes:
François Dufaux
Architect, Full Professor at the School of Architecture, Laval University
Quebec, Canada
“LIVING IN MONTREAL 1825-1935: THE EMERGENCE OF A MULTIFAMILY RESIDENTIAL TYPOLOGY”.
François Dufaux will present a lecture centered on his most recent ongoing research, which focuses on a book analyzing the evolution of multifamily housing in Montreal from the early 19th century to World War II. He proposes an approach that articulates architecture – its forms, materials, and functions – and its context. The presentation is structured around three main axes. The first section presents the object of study, illustrated by building plans. The second section offers a literature review examining the methods and objectives of the authors, while presenting the postulates and analytical frameworks. The third section presents elements of a theoretical framework centered on the design process.
The seminar aims to be a moment of sharing that invites reflection on the role of architecture in the study of urban transformations.
